Métro Barcelone

Le métro de Barcelone a été construit en 1924 avec la construction du "Gran Metro" entre Lesseps et la Plaça Catalunya, une partie de la ligne verte (L3) actuelle. Deux années plus tard le "Métro Transversal" (aujourd'hui ligne rouge (L1)) a été construit entre la Plaça Catalunya et la Bordeta pour relier le centre ville avec la Plaça d'Espanya et Montjuïc, l'endroit oú a eu lieu l'Exposition universelle en 1929.

De nos jours le réseau compte 9 lignes et le trafic est assuré par deux opérateurs différents: Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), qui s'occupe de la majeure partie des lignes de métro; et les Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC - Catalan Government Railways), qui s'occupe de trois lignes de trains, construites en extention du métro de Barcelone. Au total 98% du trafic est sous terrain.
