Le TGV Madrid-Barcelone

Inaugurée hier (20/02/2008), la ligne ferroviaire met Madrid et Barcelone à un peu plus de deux heures l’une de l’autre. Seize ans après celui reliant la capitale à Séville, le train rapide entre Madrid et Barcelone a été inauguré hier dans la frénésie médiatique. Dès 6 heures, des milliers de voyageurs, qui avaient depuis longtemps réservé leurs places, ont pu joindre les deux villes en un peu plus de deux heures et demi, casiment deux fois moins de temps que jusqu’à présent.

La liaison entre les gares d’Atocha (Madrid) et de Sants (Barcelone) bat un record pour l’AVE, nom du TGV espagnol : la vitesse moyenne frôle les 300 km/h, 17 trains feront chaque jour la navette et le prix plancher sera légèrement inférieur à celui pratiqué sur les autres lignes du pays. Du point de vue d’Iberia, qui a commencé à baisser ses tarifs pour la liaison aérienne Madrid-Barcelone (dont la compagnie assurait un quasi-monopole), il y a de quoi s’inquiéter. Les enquêtes prédisent un carton pour cette ligne d’AVE, dont le trafic équivaudrait à 91 avions quotidiens. Le projet final étant de prolonger la ligne de TGV jusqu'à Perpignan et ainsi relier la capitale espagnole directement à la France.

Dans ce pays du tout routier, un virage ferroviaire a enfin été entrepris avec Zapatero : 250 milliards d’euros ont été injectés pour que, d’ici 2020, toutes les capitales de provinces soient connectées par AVE - misant sur un tiers de passagers transportés en plus. Ces projets vont transformer la (encore modeste) gare de Sants de Barcelone, qui, d’ici à 2011, recevra 50 millions de voyageurs et s’apparentera à un terminal d’aéroport. Reste que, comme en France, ce pari pour le rail est surtout destiné aux voyageurs, le fret demeurant confiné dans une voie de garage.
